STILLWATER, Okla. – Jack DiEnna, President of the Geothermal National & International Initiative, was selected as the recipient of the 2017 International Ground Source Heat Pump Association’s Ambassador Award during the 2017 IGSHPA Conference and Expo in Denver, Colorado, on March 15.

With more than 30 years of experience advocating for the use of ground source heat pumps, DiEnna was recognized for his continuing leadership, support and promotion of the ground source heat pump industry.

“People like Jack DiEnna who continually tell the story of the industry are who help grow the industry,” said Roshan Revankar, IGSHPA Acting Executive Director. “Jack works tirelessly day in and day out to make bring awareness to the industry. It is our pleasure to award Jack with the 2017 Ambassador Award.”

DiEnna has worked in various levels of the industry, including electric utilities, geothermal installation contractor, an independent consultant and on the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium. He has volunteered many hours on IGSHPA’s behalf and is a key member of the IGSHPA Conference Planning Committee.

STILLWATER, Okla. –  Muktha Tumkur was awarded the International Ground Source Heat Pump Associations’ Friends of the Industry Award during the 2017 IGSHPA Conference and Expo on March 15.

 

Tumkur was recognized for her success in drafting the C448 Design and Installation of Ground Source Heat Pump Systems for Commercial and Residential Buildings Bi-National Standard governing geothermal installations in the U.S. and Canada. The standards are the first bi-national standards which unite the geothermal industry in the United States of America and Canada. Tumkur was brought onto the Canadian project in 2013 and shortly after the standard was adopted in Canada, Tumkur saw a need for a bi-national standard that could be adopted in the US. Tumkur built on existing relationships with industry experts to garner subject matter expertise; engaged key US industry stakeholders to actively participate in the process; built a true bi-national Technical Committee comprised of US and Canadian stakeholders; and initiated a plan with an aggressive schedule to develop a bi-national standard in a timely manner. Under Tumkur’s leadership, the C448 bi-national standard was completed in 20 months.

 

“It was an outstanding effort that helps to unite the geothermal industry around a common code, in the interest of improving the quality of such systems and the growth of the ground source geothermal industry,” said Lance MacNevin, Director of Engineering, Plastics Pipe Institute and award nominator.

STILLWATER, Okla. - geoKOAX, a ground source heat exchange technology manufacturing company, was the recipient of the 2017 Commercial Innovation Award during the 2017 International Ground Source Heat Pump Association Conference and Expo in Denver, Colorado. 

 

geoKOAX specializes in ground source heat pump systems that perform better than conventional u-bend designs by reducing the required drilling and installation length, exchanging heat carrier fluids easier during peak load times, and increasing the energy-harvesting efficiency of the system 13 times better.

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Boulders, a new geothermal development location in Jamestown, California, was selected for the 2017 International Ground Source Heat Pump Association Residential Innovation Award during the 2017 IGSHPA Conference and Expo in Denver, Colorado, on March 15.

 

Owned by developer/partner of OLA Ranch Properties, George Bean, the 44 individual residential lots in Northern California offer families several home features designed to be economical as well as environmentally sustainable. These include the installation of each lot’s dedicated vertical ground loop geothermal heat pump system, all-electric appliances (including a heat pump water heater), and a solar PV system located on the roof.

 

“Residential communities, like The Boulders, introduce new users to the ground source heat pump technology,” said Roshan Revankar, IGSHPA Acting Executive Director. “The developers of The Boulders took initiative and showed their dedication to helping protect the environment for future generations when they made the technology standard and not an upgrade option in all of the homes in this new edition. We are pleased to name The Boulders as the 2017 Residential Innovation Award recipient.”

 

The Boulders’ developers designed the residential area to reflect their beliefs to help protect the environment as well as making geothermal energy a practical solution in Northern California.

Acuña Receives IGSHPA Visionary Award

 

STILLWATER, Okla. - José Acuña, Geoenergy Specialist at Bengt Dahlgren AB and Researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, was the recipient of the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association’s Visionary Award during 2017 IGSHPA Conference and Expo in Denver, Colorado on March 15, 2017.

 

Acuña was recognized for his work in the creation of the IGSHPA chapter in Sweden, his use of fiber optics and distributed temperature sensing in geothermal installations as well as his promotion of the geothermal industry through publications in industry magazines and journals.

 

“José’s knowledge of the ground source heat pump technology and his ability to see the opportunities for the technology across the world made him the perfect candidate for the 2017 IGSHPA Visionary Award,” said Roshan Revankar, IGSHPA Acting Executive Director. “It is our pleasure to bestow this award upon him.”

 

Since starting in the geothermal industry in 2006 as a graduate student at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, Acuña has made extraordinary contributions to the field of geothermal energy through his research in advancing the techniques of geothermal boreholes and heat exchangers.

 

Acuña’s leadership at Bengt Dahlgren has allowed him to implement concepts and techniques only found in laboratory settings to projects around the world, including Sweden, Norway and the United States.
